Logs and Troubleshooting#
PilotPoster logs every post attempt. When something fails, the log tells you why.
Campaign logs#
Go to Logs in the dashboard to see results for scheduled campaigns. Each entry shows:
- Campaign name
- Target group
- Success or failure status
- Post URL (on success)
- Error message (on failure)
- Timestamp
Filter by campaign, date, or status to find specific issues.
RSS logs#
RSS campaigns have a separate log under RSS Logs. Same fields: feed item, target group, status, URL, error, timestamp.
Common errors#
Extension offline#
Symptom: Campaign stays pending past scheduled time, or posts fail immediately.
Fix:
- Confirm the extension is installed. If not, install it from the Chrome Web Store
- Open Chrome
- Log into Facebook
- Click the PilotPoster extension icon
- Confirm dashboard shows online status
- Re-run or wait for the next scheduled execution
Login expired#
Symptom: Posts fail with authentication or token errors.
Fix:
- Log out and back into Facebook in Chrome
- Refresh the extension connection
- Retry the campaign
Post pending approval#
Symptom: Log shows pending, not failed.
Meaning: The group requires admin approval. Your post is waiting for a moderator. This is normal for some groups.
Post hidden or removed#
Symptom: Post succeeds but does not appear in the group feed.
Meaning: Group admins or Facebook's filters may have hidden the post. Review the group's posting rules.
Rate limited#
Symptom: Multiple posts fail in a row with throttle or limit errors.
Fix:
- Stop all running campaigns
- Wait 24 to 48 hours
- Resume with fewer groups and longer sleep intervals
- See Account Safety
Media upload failed#
Symptom: Text posts work but media posts fail.
Fix:
- Check file format (JPG, PNG, MP4, MOV, AVI)
- Try a smaller file size
- Test with one image before adding videos
- See Media Uploads
Video upload timeout#
Symptom: Video posts fail after a long wait.
Fix: Compress the video or use a shorter clip. Large videos take longer to upload through Facebook's chunked upload.
Campaign stuck on processing#
If a campaign shows processing for longer than expected:
- Check if the extension is still online
- Look at the latest log entry to see which group it stopped on
- If the extension disconnected mid-campaign, reconnect and the backend will resume or mark it failed
Debugging checklist#
- Extension online (green status in dashboard)
- Logged into Facebook in Chrome
- Groups still exist and you are still a member
- Sleep interval is set for multi-group campaigns
- Media files are valid format and reasonable size
- No Facebook account restrictions active
